This was just our first time at the doctor that would be covered under the national health care system. Fortunately, we have the means to pay and see whomever we like, privately.

Not that the US has a better system, but it was sad to see the drastic difference between what you get if you try to work within your insurance vs what you have to pay for. Furthermore, it would be possible to see the pediatrician that we like under the public system, but she is not accepting any more "public" patients. I'd guess she's too busy seeing all the people (like us) that are willing to just pay for it.

On the upside, I think just seeing the inside of that office scared the bugs right out of Punkette. She seems to have made a complete recovery.Christine Gramhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13783180729146518061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5699989418747859369.post-77356739937722172262008-11-18T18:45:00.000-08:002008-11-18T18:45:00.000-08:00Yep, been there and done that. I wonder if it's just a matter of getting used to a different way of doing things. Health care is a biggie because we're already feeling so vulnerable. But, as an example, when I talk to women about their childbirth experiences, generally the native Italians have had no ill feelings whereas the immigrants feel scared for life under similar circumstances.Christine Gramhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13783180729146518061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5699989418747859369.post-75586128965597611232008-11-18T02:53:00.000-08:002008-11-18T02:53:00.000-08:00Run for your life...
